Business Process Management
It is how run works: it executes business processes, measures them and improves them.
Processes are the sequence of activities and rules that define how work is actually done. Business Process Management understands that work, measures its performance and determines what should change. But it does not introduce changes on its own: change is always executed by a project or a program. What it delivers is a well-founded mandate, with the problem measured, the cause identified and the future design proposed.
The mandate of run
That the commitments made yesterday are fulfilled today without incident.
Run rejects variability, and its success is measured by the absence of incidents. Processes are the mechanism through which the operation absorbs the change it receives while continuing to deliver: what the framework calls Operational Agility.
A mature organization can be recognized because the people in each department know how to adopt change mode: setting aside their time and attention to transform their own run, without the urgency of day-to-day work getting in the way.
Two criteria that must not be mixed
- Judging change by the criteria of run kills it.
- Judging run by the criteria of change breaks it.
The two tracks
Business Process Management and Process Governance.
Those who govern are accountable for doing the right things; those who manage are accountable for doing things right.
Managers track
Business Process Management · Business Process Manager
For professionals responsible for managing. They decide autonomously on everything within their authority and tolerances, prepare, with their recommendation, the decisions that are not theirs to make, and are accountable for their management to the Owner.
Owners track
Process Governance · Business Process Owner
For professionals responsible for leading. They are accountable for the outcome to whoever delegated to them, decide under delegation from Governance within their remit, approve what the Manager escalates to them and are accountable for ensuring the initiative remains justified.
The book and the certification
P4MGO!® BPM Business Process Management Body of Knowledge
P4MGO!® BPM Business Process Manager and P4MGO!® BPM Business Process Owner: certifications of persons issued by Certification.Institute, holder of the Business&Co.® certification scheme, aligned with the ISO/IEC 17024 personnel certification scheme.
Intermediate level. Prerequisite: P4MGO!® Foundations for Managers or for Owners, or P4MGO!® Essentials.
P4MGO!® BPM training and implementation.
The Management and Governance courses are delivered by ATOs (Accredited Training Organizations), training organizations accredited in P4MGO!®. Implementation within the organization is the role of ACOs (Accredited Consulting Organizations), consulting firms accredited in P4MGO!®, with professionals certified in the discipline.
